“UK artist Steve Payne has created an awesome set of celebrity portraits by photoshopping their heads, quite seamlessly, onto the bodies of old Russian generals. The original paintings, by English portraits artist George Dawe, show Russian generals who had successfully fought Napoleon in the Patriotic War of 1812. In over a nine year period, Dawe completed over 300 portraits.” [via My Modern Metropolis] As far as we’re concerned, Bill Murray is pretty much always awesome, but Bill Murray depicted as a 19th century Russian general is exceptional.

not particularly my taste, but fascinating none the less
Water: Series of paintings by Eric Zener.
Today we stumble upon an artist who truly has earned his ‘chops’. His portraits are a tantalizing display of skill and composition. Each one will grab you with a glance, and almost immediately send you running for a towel. The way he seemingly snatches reality from the air and brings it to canvas with but a stroke is truly astounding.
Being a hyper realist in the 21st century, to some, is obsolete. But Zener proves, that with skill comes significance; even in a world where a snapshot only takes a second.
